Q: How many races are taking place?
The event features four different races:
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half-marathon (13.1 miles)
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- Think Differently Dash—a 1 mile run for persons with physical and developmental disabilities.
Q: How much does it cost to register?
Registration prices are as follows:
Through March 31, 2017:

Q: Where do race proceeds go?
Proceeds of the Walkway Marathon race series benefit the Walkway Over the Hudson organization—the official 501(c)(3) charity of the race.
Q: Can I register on the day of the race?
NO. There will be no race-day registration. Online registration ends June 5, 2017.

Q: Who can participate?
The 5K and Think Differently Dash races are open to participants of any age. Participants in the marathon and half marathon must by at least 16 years of age on race day; all runners under age 18 must have written approval from a parent or legal guardian in order to compete. Those who register using a false date of birth will have their registration cancelled without refund.
For all races, we rely upon the common sense of the parent or legal guardian for anyone 16 years or younger who is interested in participating. If there are questions about the suitability of any race for a particular child, we strongly suggest that the child’s pediatrician be consulted.
Q: Are walkers and athletes with disabilities welcome?
Absolutely! We are happy to announce that wheelchair athletes (pushrim and handcrank) are welcome to register for the Marathon, Half Marathon, and THINK DIFFERENTLY Dash. Wheelchair racers may not exceed the speed limit (an average pace of 5:45 minutes per mile). All competitors, including wheelchair athletes and walkers, must finish within 6 hours and 30 minutes (average per-mile pace of 14:52).

Q: Can you tell me what the Full and Half Marathon courses are like?
The Walkway Half and Full Marathon courses are primarily flat—beginning at Marist College's Historic Cornell Boathouse with a gradual uphill start (through the Marist College Campus), a bridge crossing (Walkway Over the Hudson), a few rolling stretches and a gradual downhill finish back at Marist, with one tiny hill just before the finish. The majority of the course is run on paved rail trails.
In 2016, the William R Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail received nationwide recognition within the Hudson Valley Trail Network as being one of the most beautiful & well-kept rail trails in the United States. Q: Can you tell me what the MHRRC College to College 5K course is like?
The Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club 5K race, formerly known as Treetops to Rooftops, is completely revamped for 2017 and will not include a stretch on the Walkway.
It will now be called the MHRRC College to College 5K race. The race will start near Dutchess Community College on Creek Road. It will head south on Creek Road for a short time, arriving at the Morgan Lake trailhead of the Dutchess Rail Trail.
From there, runners will head west on the trail to Fairview Avenue, go north on Fairview to West Cedar, head downhill for a short time before turning right onto the east campus of Marist. Runners will cross under Route 9 at Marist’s pedestrian underpass, then follow the campus loop to avoid the steep hill, finishing at the same finish line as the half marathon and full marathon.
Q: How are the events timed?
All four events will be timed using a B-tag timing strip, which is attached to your race bib. Be careful not to fold or crumple your bib, as this may affect the strip’s accuracy. There is no need to return the strip to us after finishing your race.
Q: Is there a finishing time limit?
Yes! Marathon and half marathon participants are expected to maintain a pace of approximately 15 minutes per mile or better in order to finish within the following time limits:
- Marathon—6 hours, 30 minutes
- Half Marathon—6 hours, 30 minutes
- MHRRC College to College 5K—1 hour (an approximate per-mile pace of 20 minutes)
- THINK DIFFERENTLY Dash—1 hour
After these time limits have been reached, each course will close, and the streets will reopen to vehicular traffic. Participants still on the course will be asked to move to the sidewalk or re-route.
Q: How do I register?
Q: Do you offer refunds, transfers, deferrals, or registration changes?
We do not provide registration refunds, deferrals, or transfers from one person to another. Once you are registered, you may switch events (from the marathon to the half marathon, for instance) up until June 5, 2017.
Q: When and where do I pick up my bib and t-shirt for the Half and Full Marathon?
Packet pick-up will take place on Saturday, June 10th from 1:00 - 7:00 pm at the Marist College McCann Center (see campus map below) and on race day, Sunday, June 11th from 5:30 - 6:30 am at the Start/Finish area at the Marist College waterfront.
Q: When and where do I pick up my bib and t-shirt for the MHRRC College to College 5K?
Packet pick-up will take place on Saturday, June 10th from 1:00 - 7:00 pm at the Marist College McCann Center and on race day, Sunday, June 11th from 5:30 - 6:30 am at the 5K start area at Dutchess Community College (Lot E - see map below).
ON RACE DAY
Q: Where should I park?
Parking for the Full Marathon and Half Marathon will be at the Marist College Student Lots, located East of Route 9 (See campus parking map below).
Parking for the MHRRC College to College 5K will be at the Dutchess Community College E Lot (see campus parking map below). Shuttles will be available after the race so that you may return to Dutchess Community College once the 5K race is completed.
For both your safety and convenience, please plan to arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your race start time. Please consider using 511 Rideshare or taking Metro-North Railroad for transportation.
Q: Will there be a place to leave my belongings?
Yes. There will be a clearly marked “Bag Drop Off/Pick Up" located at the Marist College Waterfront Finish. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO DROP-OFF/PICK-UP FOR THE 5K RACE.
We cannot be responsible for the contents of your bag, so please do not leave valuables in it.
Due to Homeland Security requirements, unattended bags may be confiscated. Please do not leave your bag unattended anywhere outside of the official bag drop area.
Any clothing items dropped at the start line or along the course will be donated to charity. We cannot return clothing discarded at the start or along the course.
Q: Anything else I need to know?
Bib check – Be sure that your race bib is on the front of your shirt or singlet and visible (so that you will receive your official marathon photo), and that the timing strip is securely fastened.
Amenities at the start area – Water and sports drink will be available. Volunteer helpers will be on hand to provide directions and answer last-minute questions.
Vendors will also be on-site, so you may want to bring cash just in case!
Port-a-Johns – There will be toilet facilities at the start/finish area as well as on the course near each hydration station.
Timing Mats – Please avoid walking across the timing mats while waiting for the start of the race.
Safety First – For safety and insurance reasons, animals of any kind, children in conventional or jogging strollers, bikes, kettlebells, and in-line skates are not permitted on the course.
Headphones? – The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, The Walkway Marathon race committee encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of the Walkway Marathon.
We believe your race experience and those around you will be greatly enhanced by leaving the headphones at home or in the car. Running headphone-free allows opportunities to develop camaraderie with your fellow runners and to enjoy everything the race has to offer. Plus, volunteers and spectators will be on course cheering you on and providing directions to help get you to the finish line.
Runner safety has always been, and will continue to be, a top priority for our event. Please be mindful of the other participants and respect the race personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable race for everyone.
Hydration Stations – Hydration stations for the marathon and half marathon are located approximately 1.5 miles apart. Each station will have sports drink available first, and water second. Energy foods will be available at one location in the area of miles three/22.
Medical Aid – EMT crews and ambulances will be stationed along the course, and medical personnel from Dutchess County Dept of Health will staff medical tents at the start/finish area. If you become sick, extremely fatigued, or injured, race officials at the nearest hydration station can notify race officials who will alert EMTs. It is best if you do not leave the course; if you do, you must notify a race official and turn in your bib number. In addition, bicyclists will be on patrol to both assist you and seek help as needed. Transportation back to the start area will be available to anyone who decides not to complete the race.
